Shutters built to the opening, including the awkward ones
Premium wood shutters, vinyl shutters and made to order solutions for arches, eyebrows and everything that is not a plain rectangle.
Chapter 01
Shutters are joinery, so the fit is the whole job
A shutter is a piece of furniture hung in a hole in your wall, and that is the difference between it and every other window treatment. A blind hangs from a headrail and forgives a lot. A shutter frame has to sit inside the opening on all four sides, so if the opening is out of square, and in an older Cleburne County house it usually is by a little, a panel cut square will bind at one corner and show a wedge of daylight at the other.
The failures people describe to us follow from that. Panels that catch as they swing. A louver run that will not close flush so a line of light stays across the room. A hinge that has started to drop because the panel was heavier than the frame was built to carry. None of these is a paint problem or a hardware problem, and none of them can be adjusted out afterwards. They are set at the measure.

How we specify and hang them
We measure the opening at several points rather than once, because the width at the head and the width at the sill are often not the same number. That gives us what the frame has to accommodate. We then talk through material honestly, because it does more work than the color does.
Premium wood is the one people picture: real grain, the lightest panel for a given size, and the best choice for living rooms, bedrooms and a front entry where the shutter is part of the room's woodwork. Vinyl earns its place in bathrooms, laundries and kitchens, and it is the reason we can put shutters inside a tiled shower surround, which is a job a wood panel simply would not survive. Being a Norman Shutter dealer gives us the range to make that call on merit rather than on what we happen to stock.
Arches, eyebrows and angled tops are made to order the same way anything else here is, at the shop on Highway 16 in Pangburn. A half round over a front door is a template job, not a catalog job, which is exactly why it is worth having it made rather than boxed in and covered with something rectangular.
Chapter 03
What they ask of you afterwards
Almost nothing, which is most of the appeal. Shutters do not have cords to fray or fabric to fade, and a dust along the louvers with a dry cloth is the routine. Once or twice a year it is worth running a hand along the hinge screws on any panel you open and close daily, particularly a full height door panel, and nipping up anything that has loosened. That is a two minute job that prevents the slow droop that eventually makes a panel catch.
The louver tension is the other thing to know about. Panels are built to hold their angle, and if a run starts drifting shut on its own that is an adjustment, not a replacement. Tell us and we will come and set it.
